To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar we presented a composite plaque to the Friends of the Victory Museum in Portsmouth. The carving was funded by Friends of the Royal Naval Museum and HMS Victory.
A relief bust of Admiral Lord Nelson is central. The other four relief panels depict the progress of naval warfare from the 'Victory' and a cannon to a T45 Destroyer and a rocket launcher.
The carving was designed by John Vardon and is based on the mid-ship section of the Victory.
The carvers were Jess Jay, Ray White, Bert Cox, John Tappy, Alan Crockford and Andrew Huebler.
The wood is English Oak (Quercus Robur).
The work is currently in store at the Naval Museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
